What is this program

The Tour Producer Training is designed for producers, artists, and companies looking to develop national tour development skills. These may be independent, from a funded organisation or a presenting organisation who also produce work and wish to be more engaged in tour producing.

It provides participants with an understanding of a touring budget and costs, explores a variety of touring models, how to build relationships with interested venues, developing a pitching strategy and correlating information presenters will expect, and how to schedule a tour to consider environmental and mental health impacts for the company.

Who is it for

Producers and presenting organisations who have experience producing their own seasons, and have a general understanding of touring. Ideally participants have existing venue interest and can use this course to take the next steps in the tour development process in a guided fashion.

Eligibility

Successful applicants will be able to demonstrate experience in producing their own seasons and have a base knowledge of running artistic productions regardless of scale, from artist collectives to funded organisations or presenters who produce performance work. They will demonstrate a broad understanding of the touring landscape within Australia and have a current project they are ready to develop into a tour.

Time Commitment

This program will run twice across 2024. Both courses consist of five fortnightly 2-hour online sessions during business hours, and one in-person intensive held at either Honey Pot in Adelaide or APAX in Melbourne.

Course 2 is an open application process, see key dates below.

Successful applicants are expected to attend all online sessions and ideally be able to participate in the in-person intensive. Online options will be provided for the in-person events should it be required.
