Entering its 18th year, the National Photographic Portrait Prize (NPPP) is one of the Gallery’s most popular annual events. The prize provides a powerful visual record of the year that was – a celebration of identity, both collective and individual.
It is free to enter the Prize, and in 2025, the winner will receive a prize of $30,000 and $20,000 worth of equipment courtesy of Imaging Partner Canon Australia.
All finalist artworks will be exhibited at the National Portrait Gallery from 16 August 2025.
The Gallery is committed to supporting artists, so each selected finalist will receive:
- a total artist/s fee of $1200 (ex GST) to exhibit your work at the NPG
- an additional artist/s fee of $700 (ex GST) if your work is included in the NPPP 2025 National Tour
- a total copyright and image licensing fee of $1000 (ex GST)
- the NPG will organise transportation of your photograph to the NPG and the return to you (within Australia,) and the NPG will cover associated costs
- an allowance, to be determined by the NPG, for return domestic, economy travel and meals for each Artist, up to a maximum of 3 Artists, and to the NPG for the Exhibition launch
- one night’s accommodation for the Artist in Canberra for the night of the Exhibition launch
Entries will close strictly at 9.00am AEDT on Friday 31 January 2025.
