South Gippsland is home to the ArtCubes, which are a trio of compact, portable, creative spaces. Designed to offer simple, experimental, approachable places for the community to present artwork, live performance, and local offerings, they are curious objects in themselves. They invoke attention from visitors and passers-by while providing for this Shire an arts program that can take place in unexpected and sometimes remote locations.
The ArtCubes have been travelling around South Gippsland for the past two years, installed in three-month blocks in nine towns. The ArtCubes are almost ready to move again, to Leongatha. Facilitating an extraordinary program, all delivered by the host towns and their associated networks, the ArtCubes have become a point of pride for our community, an achievement of community activation that is unique to South Gippsland.
South Gippsland Shire Council has received funding through the State Government’s FReeZA Youth Activation Fund to undertake a new mural for the exterior walls of all three ArtCubes, as well as engaging in an informal on-site mentorship of up to two local, young emerging and/or aspiring artist/s.
The ArtCubes are soon to be delivered to the newly renovated Leongatha Railways Precinct (exact location TBC). This is where the artwork and mentorship will take place.
Artist Fee – $26,000
