First Space (gallery) is an ongoing place (est. 2022) for First Nations peoples to share art, experiences, creations and their stories. We want to continually generate real change and support for the community, and to create further diversification within our exhibitions, to centre conversations through a First Nations lens.

We are working with a First Nations Advisory group, who have the primary voice in the programming and decision making for First Space. We feel that it is time for us to step back and step up, and to hand over the space to First Nation’s voices. Our current FNAC members include Rod Gardner, Bianca Templar, Cheryl Rose, Cindy Thomas and Louise Daniels.

Applications for First Space are always open. Visit our website at sawtoothari.com to apply, or send us an email at sawtoothari@gmail.com.

First Space encourages applications that are:

  • Experimental
  • Respond to the physical space (First Space is located in Sawtooth ARI, which is a shed in Invermay).
  • Is bold in its intent
  • Encourages safe and inclusive dialogue
