Ipswich City Council is seeking expressions of interest for public art commissions in four unique locations across the city.
Ipswich City Council has been provided funding under the SEQ City Deal Public Art Initiatives and is seeking artists, designers, partnerships or consortiums of artists who are interested in creating public art projects for the city.
The four locations selected to be considered for public art are existing projects that would be enhanced by the addition of public art.
- Cultural Heart project – d’Arcy Doyle Place (Art Gallery forecourt), Ipswich
- Responding to the river – Riverheart Parklands, Ipswich
- Ephemeral wetlands – Bremervale Park, Raceview
- Echos of the past – Tallegalla Cemetery, Tallegalla
Each submission must achieve one of these outcomes for the city:
- Enhances cultural experience, aesthetic of the built environment, and quality public spaces.
- Contribution to a location’s unique identity and cultural heritage.
- Attraction of investment through cultural tourism.
- Opportunities for artists and the creative industries, including for innovative practices and professional development.
- Supporting a sense of community, local identity and social cohesion.
Artists are invited to submit expressions of interest (EOI) via the vendor panel by 4.00 pm on Monday 10 March 2025. Ipswich City Council will shortlist 12 artists (three per location) to proceed to the concept development stage, each receiving $2,000 for their full concept.
The Public Art Advisory Group will recommend the mix of projects, which may include small installations across various locations or a large project in a single location.
