Helpmann Academy’s Artist Commission is a collaboration with the City of Adelaide, inviting a visual artist to create site-specific artwork for temporary hoarding on the iconic Adelaide Town Hall façade.

The artwork will be located within scaffolding currently on the King William Street exterior of the Town Hall building and will take the form of a ‘paste-up’. The artwork will be installed in late October and is expected to be in place until February 2025.

This project celebrates the music legacy of Helpmann Academy and the City of Adelaide, Australia’s only city of UNESCO. The hoarding paste-up will be designed and produced by the selected artist or artist collective as paste-ups.

Accompanying the project is a mentorship with an esteemed artist who will guide the recipient(s) through the design, printing and installation process.

This project is a great opportunity for artists interested in scaling up their photographic or 2D work, or artists looking to represent their three-dimensional work in new ways. Any artist looking to present work in the public realm will benefit from the experience and exposure of this Helpmann Academy and City of Adelaide project.

The recipient will receive $4,500 (inc GST) for the project, covering their artist fee and the design, creation and installation of the artwork.

THE FINAL ARTWORKS WILL:

  • Respond to the theme: “Celebrating the music legacy of Helpmann Academy and the City of Adelaide”
  • Be printed material, a paper paste-up not exceeding 3m2, within the length of 280 metre hallway
