Free studio space for artists – applications close Sunday 20 October 2024

Applications for the Billilla Artists Studio Program are now open.

This program supports artists from diverse practices and across career stages.

The Billilla Artists Studio Program supports artists from diverse practices and across career stages. Located at the historic Billilla Mansion in Brighton, the program provides an opportunity for artists to connect with the local community through public programs as well as develop their practice without the financial pressure of paying studio rent.

For 2023 Bayside Studio Artist Carolyn Cardinet, the Beckett studio became her ‘sanctuary, a space where creativity flowed freely.’ She explains, ‘the walls bore witness to my artistic evolution as a visual artist, capturing the essence of my sustainable art practice as I developed a line of wearable art from waste. Surrounded by nature’s serenity, the studio allowed me the luxury of time and solitude, fostering profound introspection and honing my craft. The studio was not merely a physical space but a vessel of inspiration, where I found my voice and expressed it through my art. It has left an indelible mark on my creative identity and journey.’

This initiative aligns with Bayside’s Community Vision 2050 of ‘Nurturing Creativity’, and creating an environment where creativity is encouraged and celebrated. This includes establishing formal and informal spaces that foster creative endeavours, promote celebration and bring people together in creative pursuits.

The out buildings of the mansion have since been converted into basic studios which are accessible from 8am to 10pm seven days a week, from 1 February – 31 December 2025.

We have 5 free studio spaces available for 11 months , to offer to artists from Bayside and across Victoria.

We’re seeking high quality applications from people in the arts sector, including artists, writers, composers, filmmakers, sculptors, performers, and designers.

Applications close Sunday 20 October 2024.
