The National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA) is rolling out their Autumn Adult program, holding workshops and short courses in Melbourne and Sydney this April.
Covering acting, screen acting, filmmaking, musical theatre, TV presenting, writing, directing and design, the courses are open to everyone from beginners, creative professionals and established industry practitioners.
Rhea Walker is a trained actor and NIDA Open Course Manager. Walker said the Autumn program offers classes at all levels, ranging from weekend beginner classes to more advanced one-day Masterclasses.
‘We have a huge ‘essentials’ range of two-day courses for beginners. The essentials are introductory -level courses that give you an overview of a particular skills area. For example, if you are new to acting, an ‘Acting Essentials’ course is for you as it will give you a great introduction to the actor’s craft and cover all the skills you will need if you want to move on to a more rigorous course, like ‘NIDA Acting Techniques’ .’
‘These two-day weekend courses are very popular with people who want to unleash their creative side and try something new. People with a 9-5’er that have always dreamed of being an actor, can do a weekend course to try it out’.
‘NIDA’s masterclass one-day intensive workshops are also on offer during the autumn program. These workshops are specifically tailored to people who have previous experience or are industry professionals, who want to brush up on their skills or diversify their skill-set and learn another discipline. Perhaps an actor who wants to try their hand at filmmaking, for example,’ said Walker.
As an institution with more than 50 years’ experience in dramatic arts education and training, Walker said NIDA’s courses prepare students for a career in the arts, providing training that reflects current industry practices and trends.
‘We pride ourselves on delivering practical performance arts training so you will always be up on the floor doing activities. This training style is supported by our tutors who share their extensive experience in theatre, TV and film throughout every class. Students are guaranteed to receive the highest level of expertise in all of our courses,’ said Walker.
