Drawing upon bedrock of proven techniques and practices, the Actors College of Theatre and Television (ACTT) has 20 years of experience catapulting graduates into diverse and critically acclaimed roles in film, television and theatre, from ACTT’s teaching methodology and expansive curriculum.
The new year will bring a new course on offer for 2015, with the Advanced Diploma in Musical Theatre debuting to further train students as they make their way into the competitive industry of musical theatre.
Offering academic support, lecturer in Musical Theatre at ACTT Tyran Parke, said that the advanced diploma will offer students new options and enrich the already existing diploma.
‘Next year we will have a first and a second year so it’s going to shift quite a bit,’ said Parke. ‘There is an opportunity to put on much bigger performances when we have a group large enough to include both an ensemble and leading roles.’
Combining singing, dancing and acting, the Advanced Diploma of Music Theatre course offers the integration and application of all three streams within varying contexts to create a well-rounded performer.
‘I don’t want to have musical theatre people who can only do musical theatre. In a course like this they are actually able to cross over to work as actors’ said Parke. ‘My hope is that it’s a musical theatre course that prepares them for a career in the industry as whole; that includes film and television as well as stage.’
With a strong foundational acting and movement core, musical theatre students are taught by highly trained music theatre professionals including choreographers, vocal coaches and movement experts to adapt their skills across holistic spectrum modules, with students actively engaging with the curriculum.
‘I’ve always enjoyed how the students tend to lead their education a lot. They are very communicative with the staff here. They really do shape their own learning. There is always a really lovely energy around ACTT students. There’s a very humble feeling about it which brings out great work,’ said Parke.
‘We want to create an ensemble in the classes. It doesn’t matter if they have done professional work or they are just raw talent, we will shape them depending on what they come in with.’
