As the only Australian creative writing school inside a publishing house (Allen & Unwin, 12-time publisher of the year), Faber Writing Academy is in a unique position to encourage and foster emerging writing talent through their assorted courses. These short courses are not only intended to deliver an efficient but enlightening learning experience, but to help emerging writers build the networks they’ll need to see their dream project through to publication.
‘Faber courses tend to suit people who know that they want to write and often know what field they want to write in.’ said Kathryn Heyman, Fiction Courses Director at Faber. ‘Our courses aren’t about theory, but about practice, always taught by the best in the field.’
The courses are geared at the serious-minded aspiring writer: determined to learn about writing; wanting practical, condensed alternatives to a master’s degree in creative writing. Faber Writing Academy’s courses run in Sydney and Melbourne, from one day to three months long, covering fiction, non-fiction and memoir. The courses have a practical focus on producing work, and then displaying that work to its best advantage.
