The world of entertainment management is a broad one, with opportunities encompassing everything from music to comedy. The Bachelor of Entertainment Management at the Australian Institute of Music (AIM) places students right in the centre of this exciting industry, with opportunities to collaborate with students in other courses throughout the curriculum, and undertake internships with high-profile organisations.

AIM’s small class sizes encourage better quality engagement, which is vital as all lecturers are current industry professionals with relevant, up-to-date experience to impart and networks to share. Entertainment Management Internship Coordinator Margaret Spillane explained that ‘students are also exposed to the other departments so there are opportunities to collaborate with contemporary performers, to put into practice the things they’re learning about artist management, touring and promotions.’

Bachelor of Entertainment Management students can also study electives from other departments at AIM. ‘We have fabulous studios on our main campus which students can use if they’re doing electives from music production or audio. The AIM facilities are all there and available for our students,’ Spillane said.

Students put all these skills into play when they undertake two internships, credited towards their study, over the last two trimesters of the six-trimester degree. ‘An internship host organisation is a potential employer down the track, and at least a potential referee,’ Spillane explained. ‘I’ve developed some wonderful relationships with organisations from the music and entertainment industry.’

Students are the beneficiaries of these relationships and networks, regularly taking placements at Warner Music Australia, Foxtel and Sony ATV. As students often move into employment at those organisations after their internship, it’s clear Bachelor of Entertainment Management graduates are destined for big things.

At the Australian Institute of Music’s Open Day on 18 August, prospective students can learn more about career and study options, hear from alumni and industry members on the Bachelor of Entertainment Management, as well as the myriad of other courses and options available at AIM’s Sydney and Melbourne campuses. For those aiming for success, it just makes sense.
