Philip Barnes’ painting of Anna Meares is in for the running along with 54 artists – more Finalist than last year’s edition of the Prize.

Introducing the finalists for this year’s Archibald, Wynne and Sulman Awards – a total of 115 paintings from a field of 2087 – Director of Collections at the Art Gallery of New South Wales, Suhanya Raffel said: ‘The Archibald has seen numerous legal battles, conversations and opinions spread across our media over the years…it has become part of our popular culture. And, of course, the public has a very strong point of view!’
