The NGA’s Seated Buddha to return to India in good faith.
The National Gallery of Australia (NGA) announced Friday that, in partnership with the Nancy Wiener Gallery Inc.(NWG), it will repatriate the gallery’s Seated Buddha to India.
Questions surrounding the Kushan period sculpture’s provenance were raised last year as part of investigations under the Gallery’s Asian Art Provenance Research Project, which established in December 2014 under new director Gerard Vaughan.
