Renowned French theatre director Jérôme Savary recently passed away in a Paris hospital, following a lengthy battle with cancer.
Savary will be remembered as extremely crucial to popularising French theatre, staging over a hundred plays and operas throughout Europe. His diverse body of work ranged from serious theatre to musical performances or from Shakespeare to a play about a comic book character. He is especially remembered for his embrace of musical theatre, which was largely considered an Anglo-Saxon genre.
