Imagine a dancefloor where there is no light, no mirrors, no lycra, no teachers, no elaborate choreographies, in fact, no choreography at all, just free movement. Does it sound like the perfect opportunity to dance like nobody is watching and out of your own lounge room?
For Opus’13, heavyweights L’Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival (LMFF), No Lights No Lycra (NLNL) and Polyester Records have teamed up to celebrate dance music through the ages in Melbourne’s historic Ormond Hall. Six Melbourne DJs will spin six decades of dance hits spanning from the jazz n’ swing sounds of the 1930s through to the rave n’ house beats of the 2000s on a dimly lit dancefloor where punters are encouraged to come dressed in their decade of choice. Self-conscious or not, participants can break a sweat and experience dance in an alternative way, free of inhibitions or judgment.
