‘Happy Ending?’ by Michael Doolan

The sculpture, entitled Happy Ending? by Michael Doolan was unveiled on Monday in Bendigo Art Gallery’s new wing. It is a large, black fibreglass piece showing a teddy bear covering its eyes while standing over a fallen bird.

The sculpture is the continuation of a series of Doolan’s works that explores the underlying sinister meanings present in many children’s fairytales. It appears to depict a critical moment in a larger narrative with the outcome remaining unclear, but asks the audience to decide whether there will be a ‘Happy Ending?’
