One of the greatest exponents of the Bengal School of art, Ganesh Pyne, died of cardiac arrest on Tuesday, aged 76.
He came to prominence when, in the 70s, the now-defunct Illustrated Weekly of India published an interview with India’s most famous artist at the time, MF Husain. When asked to name the best painter in India, Husain picked Pyne, then a 37-year-old artist.
