A city’s culture is its heart and soul. Take away its culture, and you’re left with everything that is boring in life.
However, the tent that is ‘culture’ is a big one. It covers all kinds of things, from the obvious – like theatre, symphonies and festivals – to the perhaps-not-as-obvious, like restaurants, skateboarding and street art.
The City of Sydney puts more than $34 million toward cultural activities every year. If you enjoyed the New Year’s Eve fireworks or the Biennale of Sydney, you’ve benefitted from that spending. Similarly, if you have seen public artworks, gone to an outdoor concert, borrowed a book, seen a film being shot, or snacked at a food truck, then again, you have enjoyed the City’s support of cultural life.
