An online presence for a publication is essential, but do literary journals need to add the bells and whistles of new media in order to attract new readers? We spoke to editors and publishers of The Lifted Brow, Kill Your Darlings, Meanjin, and Archer to find out what they are doing digitally.
The Lifted Brow, a literary journal publishing local and international work from emerging and established writers and artists, is taking their digital component to another level. Found in 2007, the journal has long been transposing printed material into a fortnightly digital version, but in late January will launch an entirely revamped, independent, interactive and fully responsive digital magazine, Side Eye.
