The Darwin Festival opened last Thursday night under the stars with over 3,000 people enjoying the clear balmy night at a free family concert in the Botanic Gardens.
Headlining were the Dunganda Street Sounds from Ramangining in East Arnhemland in their debut live performance. Jo Duffy, Darwin Festival Director programmed them after the success of their first CD, recorded around 18 months ago, and the popular videoclip of their song Senor. Written by Michael Dawu and Jason Durrurrnga, Senor combines Spanish, traditional languages, didgeridoo and dance beats and won Filmclip of the Year at last year’s Indigenous Music Awards.
