Philip Quast on the rhythm of the stage

Philip Quast is a one of Australia’s most successful performers, star of Sondheim, Shakespeare and the small screen. Currently appearing as Sir Humphrey Appleby in the Australian production of 'Yes, Prime Minister' ArtsHub caught up with him to talk about his love of story and approach to text, sung and spoken.

Philip Quast is a one of Australia’s most successful performers. Having worked with Stephen Sondheim, Sam Mendes and Trevor Nunn, to name but a few. His breadth of work reflects his range of talent. Considered the definitive Javert in Les Miserables, he has won three Olivier awards for best performer in a musical and has worked for the RSC and The National Theatre. In Australia he has performed at STC, MTC and STCSA. A presenter for Playschool on the ABC for 17 years, Quast has also worked extensively in TV and film and has passed on his years of experience pro bono in various drama schools in Australia and abroad.

Trent Baker is a Melbourne based actor, director and teacher. He is a graduate of both W.A.A.P.A (acting) and the V.C.A (direction). An International Fellow of Shakespeare’s Globe, London, he was one of the original actors who formed Red Stitch and is co-artistic director of Winterfall Theatre. He has worked for MTC, Bell Shakespeare, The National theatre, The Malthouse and Railway St Theatre.
