While Australia’s vaccinated population is growing, it’s still far from preventing lockdowns and the closure of public galleries for months on end. Capacity limits, timed entries and social distanced viewing will certainly be a part of re-openings when possible, but can a vaccination mandate be the solution to bring back audiences once and for all?
New York City Mayor Bill De Blasio believes this is so, recently announcing a US government mandate that will require vaccination passes for entry to the city’s breadth of museums, galleries and art fairs, in addition to indoor dining, fitness and entertainment venues. The policy will come into effect on 13 September 2021, with non-compliance fines starting at $1,000 USD.
