Mining and the arts

Mining and the arts is not necessarily a marriage that immediately springs to mind, but mining can and is doing a lot for the arts, especially in Western Australia.

Australia is going through its biggest mining boom in history, and it doesn’t show any signs of slowing down. In fact, it is likely to continue for at least another 15, or possibly even 25 years. While the watered down version of the government’s mining tax may take a portion of the super profits back to the government, whether or not any of this money will go into arts and culture is yet to be determined. It is therefore worth looking at what can be achieved with a more direct partnership between the mining industry and the arts sector.
