‘Taking the cottage craft out of the cottage’, is how Megan Duckett describes her LA based business Sew What?, billed as the premier provider of custom-sewn theatrical drapes and fabrics for the show business industry. And boy has she ever. Sew What? has turned making theatrical backdrops into a hi-tech hi- turnover business with over 40 sales and production employees based out of her Rancho Dominguez production facilities at the southern end of the Los Angles sprawl.

It’s a long way from Canterbury, in Melbourne’s leafy east. Duckett enjoyed a comfortable supportive middle-class upbringing with all the accoutrements, ballet lessons and cello, prep to year 12 at Camberwell Girls Grammar with blazer and brown stockings. But much as she loved all of that, she became a rock n roll roadie.
