Elders and Board members of Murujuga Aboriginal Corporation joined staff from Rio Tinto last night at Sydney’s Museum of Contemporary Art Australia (MCA) for the opening of Embedded: Craig Walsh, a portrait of the remote, resource rich, Burrup Peninsula in north Western Australia.
While Walsh has built a reputation internationally for his computer-manipulated imagery projected onto, and in response to, public spaces from historic buildings to shopping malls, this project strikes at the core of this contentious region known for its Aboriginal rock art and mining.
