Exit interview: James Berlyn, WAYTCo

Outgoing Artistic Director James Berlyn reflects on six eventful years with the WA Youth Theatre Company.

In a sector where passion is a major driver for so many, it’s easy to become overworked and burnt out. Managing stress, and recognising when a role is starting to take too much of a toll, is important to monitor.

Last Monday, theatre-maker and director James Berlyn finished up as Artistic Director of the Western Australian Youth Theatre Company (WAYTCo) after six years.

Richard Watts OAM is ArtsHub's National Performing Arts Editor; he also presents the weekly program SmartArts on Three Triple R FM. Richard is a life member of the Melbourne Queer Film Festival, a Melbourne Fringe Festival Living Legend, and was awarded the Sidney Myer Performing Arts Awards' Facilitator's Prize in 2020.
