The first major retrospective on painter John Brack (b.1920, d.1999) in more than two decades opened at Melbourne’s NGV at the Ian Potter Centre, Federation Square late last week provoking admiration, nostalgia and surprisingly a little controversy.
Brack is widely regarded as one of the most important 20th century Australian artists and when they have appeared at auction in recent years (rarely), his major works have commanded prices well in excess of $3 milllion, amongst the highest for any Australian artist.
