The second new moon after the winter solstice marks the first day of the Chinese New Year, which this year is Thursday February 3, 2011, the Year of the Rabbit, 4709. In Chinese culture it is a time to feast with friends and family and celebrate new hope, wealth, health and fortune. All around Australia Chinese communities will celebrate and share their culture with a variety of performances, parades and banquets.
