There is a perception that art and sport sit at opposite sides ends of the spectrum of Australian culture. Meat pies and beer-guzzling philistines on one side, champagne-sipping art wankers on the other.
But ​the cultural divide – always overstated – no longer rings true. Plenty of audience members go to the footy on Friday night and the theatre on Saturday and plenty of artists find sport a fertile field for creative reflection.
