Can’t get no satisfaction: when gigs are cancelled

The cancelled concert at Mount Macedon comes with a hefty price tag. The Rolling Stones might be able to afford it but how can other artists and promoters protect themselves against a fiscal fallout?

Mick Jagger had two lumps in his throat last week: the one where doctors advised him to cancel The Rolling Stones Hanging Rock concert, and the lump of money he now has to cough up for not fronting some 20,000 screaming fans.

I am very sorry we had to cancel the show at Hanging Rock and disappoint so many of you that had planned to come…
