When you think of a biennale or triennial, what comes to mind? Big heritage events like the Venice Biennale and the Biennale of Sydney or younger examples like the Yokohama Triennial? These regular artistic celebrations are usually characterised by one factor apparent in their titles – the city in which they’re staged.
But the Asia Pacific Triennial of Contemporary Art is different. It’s not about a city but an entire region, says QAGOMA Acting Director Suhanya Raffel when asked what sets APT apart from other events.
