When today’s 60-somethings were in their 20s, they didn’t feel privileged. The long post-war boom had finally died, and governments were wrestling with the twin demons of unemployment and inflation. The politics of Vietnam and conscription had given way to feminism and the environmental movement, overshadowed by the promise and fate of the Whitlam government.
