Gender inequality in the visual arts has long been highlighted through the work of groups such as the USA’s Guerrilla Girls – founded in 1985 with the mission of highlighting the lack of women’s representation in the art world.
In Australia, artist Elvis Richardson has also led the charge, via the gender watchdog blog, CoUNTess: Women count in the art-world, which she founded in 2008. It has had a strong impact on local trends in galleries and art museums, however the secondary market is still significantly unbalanced.
