Team Leader Gallery and Arts Programs

Merri-bek City Council is looking for an experienced and collaborative arts leader to oversee our gallery and other arts programs.

  • Part Time, permanent role, 4 days per week – 0.8 EFT
  • Exciting role overseeing the Counihan Gallery, public art program, arts grants and artist development program for one of Melbourne’s leading Councils for the arts
  • This role will be based in Coburg and Brunswick with work from home opportunities
  • $99 – 108K + Super (pro rata)

About the role

The Team Leader Gallery and Arts Programs is a key leadership role within the Arts Merri-bek team and is responsible for oversight of the Counihan Gallery in Brunswick, public art, arts grants and artist development programs. The role works collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to deliver arts programs that are impactful and relevant for both artists and audiences. The role also works with the Unit Manager to deliver relevant aspects of the 2023-2030 Arts and Culture Strategy.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an arts industry professional who is passionate about contemporary art, supporting diverse artistic practice and engaging with Merri-bek’s diverse arts sector and community. We are seeking someone who is strategic and collaborative and interested in creating partnerships and driving audience development and growth.

Skills and experience require to perform the role

  • A tertiary qualification in the arts/arts management/curatorship and/or arts industry experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop, deliver and evaluate diverse and innovative arts programs.
  • Experience in managing an art gallery and/or art collection.
  • Demonstrated experience working collaboratively with diverse stakeholders and ability to develop partnerships.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong people management experience including motivating and supervising staff and, contractors.
  • Current Victorian Driver’s Licence.
