- Salary commencing at $41.81 per hour plus 11.5% superannuation, commensurate with skills and experience
The Opportunity
Moonee Valley City Council is seeking an enthusiastic and passionate Special Project – Visual Arts Programs Officer to play a key role in developing, coordinating, and delivering a suite of engaging and impactful educational and public programs for a major exhibition at the Incinerator Gallery in 2025. This role offers an exciting opportunity to collaborate with local and international curators, artists, educators, and community partners to create memorable, interactive programs. Responsibilities
- Develop and execute educational and public programs that align with the exhibition’s themes and artworks – which explore the relationship between childhood and play.
- Create a diverse, inclusive program schedule that appeals to a wide audience, including children, families, schools, and community groups.
- Collaborate with local and international curators, artists, and partners to design innovative program content and promote cross-collaboration.
- Build and manage partnerships with schools, universities, cultural organisations, and community groups.
- Coordinate all logistical aspects of programs, including scheduling, staffing, and resource management.
- Coordinate with internal stakeholders to promote programs and ensure smooth execution.
- Oversee program budgets and track attendance, ensuring ongoing program evaluation and improvement.
- Ensure all activities are safe, engaging, and comply with Child Safe standards and Council policies.
- Track program attendance, gather feedback, and evaluate the effectiveness of programs to continually improve offerings.
- Ensure that activities and networks include representatives of communities that reflect the diversity in the population of Moonee Valley, including, but not limited to, our First Peoples, people of all abilities and those who are culturally and linguistically diverse.
Skills & Experience
To succeed in this role, you will need a tertiary qualification in Arts Education, Museum Studies, Fine Arts, Design, or a related field, or equivalent experience in arts program development. Ideal candidate would have demonstrated experience in creating and executing arts programs, particularly those focused on schools, children, and families. Strong project management skills are essential, with the ability to manage multiple tasks, deadlines, and a range of stakeholders. You must be an effective communicator, with the ability to engage diverse audiences and collaborate with artists and other community partners. A deep understanding of contemporary art, educational theory, and arts engagement is crucial, along with a passion for making art more accessible to the public.
