JOB DESCRIPTION

A Senior Interior Designer is responsible for leading the development and delivery of high-quality design deliverables that result in successful and profitable projects. Additionally, to project deliverables, the Senior Designer is responsible for contributing to team skills growth by leading, mentoring and training Interior Designers and Graduates.

Often responsible for multiple projects, the Senior Interior Designer is responsible to lead the coordinated and quality delivery of predesign, schematic design, design development, construction documentation and construction administration project requirements. While reporting to Director level, the Senior Interior Designer is ultimately responsible for the facilitation of a projects deliverables; on-time, on/under budget, compliant with IA’s documentation quality standards and aligning with industry compliance requirements. The Senior Interior Designer will have an established industry network and continue to develop and contribute to IA’s project opportunity pipeline.

It is expected that a Senior Interior Designer will:

  • have a detailed and comprehensive understanding of the National Code of Construction
  • have expert level technical skillsets to develop (and mentor) project documentation within ACAD and/or Revit
  • be proficient in the use of Adobe Creative Suite software (InDesign, Photoshop, etc)
  • confidently understand the project management process, with the ability to lead projects as a Project Leader
  • be highly competent in design coordination, often leading the coordination of all disciplines related to our project deliverables
  • be responsible for the management of profitable projects through proven time and cost management

Education and Experience

  • A bachelor’s degree in Interior Design or an accepted alternative qualification
  • Minimum of 6+ years delivering commercial interior design projects in the capacity of Interior Designer
  • Expert use of Microsoft Office packages (word, excel, outlook and MS teams)
  • An expert level user of ACAD and/or Revit with the ability to mentor and review other’s completed work.
  • Proficient use of Adobe Create Suite, specifically Indesign and Photoshop
  • An expert knowledge of the requirements of BCA/NCC, Australian Standards and Local Government/Certification bodies
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects in a dead-line oriented environment
  • Demonstrated project and business financial acumen
  • Expert experience in managing, leading, coordinating and contributing to a multi-disciplinary team both internally and externally

Responsibilities

Operational

  • Leading by example, comply with IA Group operating policies and procedures at all times
  • Leading by example, comply with IA Group CAD documentation standards at all times, mentoring/training junior staff when required.
  • Take a lead role in managing the coordination and development of project deliverables, their resourcing and time management in coordination with the team leader/director
  • Take an active approach to mentoring and training lesser skilled staff

Clients and New Business Management

  • Be seen internally and externally as an evolving design leader.
  • Attend local industry events ensuring to maintain IA Design’s visibility within the local market as a workplace design leader
  • Assist with the development of tender/proposal responses, submissions, and creation of their content
  • Take a lead role in project pitches / presentations, responsible for the articulation of design capability and deliverables.

Projects and Delivery

  • Overall responsibility to deliver high quality projects, within the agreed time allocation ensuring profitability.
  • Responsible for undertaking complete project briefing with the client/representatives and lead the return brief development.
  • Complete efficient and accurate site audits
  • Take a lead role on all assigned projects (capable of all sizes while running them concurrently)
  • Lead schematic / space planning
  • Lead development of visual presentation material
  • Deliver documentation packages to a standard that mitigates construction variation risks
  • Manage contract/subcontractor tender pricing processes
  • Manage and coordinate sub consultants and their deliverables
  • Lead and manage design and project PCG meetings, providing client updates as necessary
  • Manage the internal design teams, mitigating design risk and errors, monitoring deliverables and undertaking preliminary QA reviews.
  • Responsible for meeting BMS project management requirements
