About MQFF
Melbourne Queer Film Festival (MQFF) is a non-profit queer community organisation governed by a voluntary Board of Directors. It is staffed by a team of committed arts and community professionals, as well as hundreds of volunteers who support our events each year.
MQFF is Australia’s oldest and largest queer film festival, attracting tens of thousands of festival-goers annually. The Festival is recognised internationally as one of the most important platforms for Queer cinema in the world and plays a vital role in providing a forum for celebration, advocacy and visibility for queer communities.
Key Details
Position title: Program Director, Melbourne Queer Film Festival
Reports to: The Chief Executive Officer (CEO)
Direct reports: Program volunteers and interns.
Indirect reports: Festival Producer
Working hours: Jan–May (inclusive) 3 days per week. Jun–Dec (inclusive) 5 days per week.
Role Purpose
Reporting to and working collaboratively with the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), the Program Director provides the organisation’s artistic vision and curatorial leadership and is responsible for initiating, developing and delivering the artistic program.
The Program Director is deeply committed to the practice of film and television, showcasing the stories of LGBTIQ+ communities through this medium, and creating extraordinary audience experiences. The successful candidate will demonstrate global thinking, the ability to blend the digital and physical, and the capacity to develop the Festival’s reach and impact as a cornerstone event in Victoria’s film and cultural calendar.
The Program Director works collaboratively and innovatively, reflecting the organisation’s values of excellence, celebration, diversity, community, and respect. Through their programming, the Program Director maintains and builds the Festival’s relationships with audiences, filmmakers, actors, distributors, producers, other film and TV sector peers, funders, donors, and other stakeholders. The Program Director works in close partnership with the CEO to sustain and cultivate the Festival’s strong financial position, and to ensure MQFF remains a great place to work for permanent and seasonal staff and the many volunteers who enable the Festival each year.
