Graphic Designer (V24/9316)

Blue Mountains City Council has an opportunity for an experienced graphic designer to be a part of its Communications team.

The Communications team is responsible for the service activities of Corporate Communications; Community Engagement; Public Relations; Marketing; Media Management; Crisis Communications; and related Policy Management.

This four-day a week (for two years) position is responsible for the provision of graphic design, illustration and brand management services to the organisation and related digital and print publishing requirements.

To succeed in this role you must have experience working in an organisation of a similar size and corporate brand setting, and a demonstrated ability to project manage the creative design process from brief to completion.

Key External Relationships: Public; Government Agency representatives.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Illustration

Major actions

  • Respond to requests from internal staff for illustrative work.
  • Create illustrative work to visualize Council’s infrastructure projects for community consultation.

2. Digital and graphic design requests

Major actions

  • Respond to requests from internal staff for digital and graphic design work.
  • Read and interpret design specifications from job documentation.
  • Determine the best approach to design concepts that conform to Council’s Brand Guide from original concept to final delivery.
  • Determine the most appropriate graphic design software solution.
  • Liaise with consultant designers and print houses – and help manage briefs and costings.

3. Digital and graphic design production

Major actions

  • Undertake the production of digital and graphic design projects from original concept to delivery.
  • Prepare layouts and artwork to meet production and design requirements using a range of graphic design software packages.
  • Specify appropriate stock for printed work.
  • Select and assemble the materials set out in the job design specifications.
  • Provide internal staff with professional, creative, high quality and cost effective digital and graphic design within agreed deadlines.
  • Prepare all digital documents to be published online to meet WCAG 2.0 accessibility requirements.

4. Brand advocacy

Major actions

  • Provide expertise in graphic design and corporate brand management.
  • Prepare all creative material in accordance with Council’s Brand Guide and specifications.
  • Guide the use and development of Council’s logo family.
  • Contribute to building Council’s corporate brand and identity.

Workplace Health & Safety

COMMUNICATION & INTERPERSONAL SKILLS

The person requires strong communication and stakeholder management skills. Their role requires extensive, ongoing cooperation, coordination and communications between Teams and Services for work production or service quality. A major part of the job is to provide service to internal customers, with accountability for measuring and consistently improving service. The person is also responsible for establishing and communicating project team goals and objectives, and implementing the achievement of plans.
