Graphic Designer

Australian Galleries is seeking an in-house, Melbourne based, graphic designer to support both our Melbourne and Sydney galleries in producing Australian Galleries branded exhibition marketing collateral across print and digital media. This position is based at our 35 Derby Street, Collingwood gallery.

This is a permanent part-time role of 22.5 hours per week spread across 3 – 4 days of the week.

Salary will be commensurate with experience and will be discussed during the interview stage.

About us:

Australian Galleries is a leading contemporary art gallery with galleries in Collingwood VIC and Paddington NSW. Established in 1956, Australian Galleries has continued to represent significant contemporary Australian artists and their work for 60 years with a vibrant monthly exhibition program and extensive stock gallery.

The Role:

This role focuses on supporting our monthly exhibitions and artists by producing invitations, catalogues, tiles, web banners, publications and other miscellaneous projects. You will be collaborating closely with the gallery director, gallery managers and artists.

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Designing and producing all exhibition material, print and digital, to a set timeline
  • Maintaining, reviewing and ensuring design and brand consistency across all print and digital material
  • Presenting and discussing concepts for upcoming exhibitions and ad hoc projects
  • Effectively communicating and liaising with internal and external contractors to ensure design outputs are met in a timely manner and to print specifications
  • Assisting with the coordination of print production of exhibition graphics, and other communication material

Key selection criteria for the successful candidate:

To be a successful candidate, you will have over 5 years’ experience in a design environment with a proven ability to conceptualise, design, plan and produce graphic material for print production and digital media. Ensure all designs meet the highest standards of quality and are prepared correctly for print production. You can work autonomously and with proven attention to detail while maintaining a high level of accuracy. Be organised and coordinate projects to schedule and on-time. Work collaboratively and have good communication skills with an organised approach to your workload and identify key priorities to meet print deadlines. Follow design briefs, clearly identify your needs, and work collaboratively within a team environment to facilitate an open and transparent workplace. Must be able to listen to feedback and work constructively with your colleagues in a polite and considerate manner. 

Experience:

Experience in the arts industry would be preferred, however not essential.

Proficient in:

  • Adobe Creative Cloud software such as InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop and Acrobat.
  • Knowledge and experience in print production would be an advantageous with a good understanding of digital-based design.
  • Knowledge of Webflow and Shopify would be desirable
