Salary range: $106025 to $109194 pa (pro rata) and employer’s contribution to superannuation and annual leave loading.

The Mental Health Commission of NSW (MHC) is seeking a Graphic Designer to join the Communications & Engagement team. This is an exciting opportunity join a small, dynamic group to create visually engaging designs which promote and enhance the MHC brand and showcase its work.

The Commission is based in the Sydney CBD and working flexibly within hybrid workplace guidelines.

Role of the Mental Health Commission of NSW

The MHC is an independent body with a broad remit – to monitor, review and improve the NSW mental health system and the mental health and wellbeing of the people of NSW. That includes research, advocacy, education, evaluation and the development of a state-wide strategic plan for mental health services and support.

The Commission works across government and closely with community organisations, academics, advocacy groups, service provides and people with lived experience, building on their expertise and skills to influence and design changes and improvements to mental health services in NSW.

Primary Purpose Of The Role

The Graphic Designer is responsible for the production and design of high-quality digital and print material to support the objectives of the MHC. The position requires an understanding of how best to present complex healthcare data to internal and external stakeholders through effective design and presentation.

Key Accountabilities

  • Design high quality reports, strategic plans, reviews and frameworks, presentations as required.
  • Design and prototype new pages and develop engaging digital assets for MHC’s website, intranet and social channels.
  • Create infographics and animations from complex information and data.
  • Evolve the MHC brand in line with the NSW Government’s visual identity guidelines.
  • Apply MHC’s corporate brand guidelines for all materials, producing high quality work in a timely manner to meet deadlines.
  • Apply best-practice design principles to support engagement with key stakeholders and communication of the MHC’s key messages.

Key Challenges

  • Working collaboratively with colleagues throughout MHC to deliver complex and detailed data and information in a variety of engaging and accessible formats to different audiences.
  • Developing and evolving a consistent suite of branded collateral which helps build MHC’s reputation and achieves cut through in a cluttered environment.

Essential Requirements

  • Appropriate tertiary qualifications in Graphic Design and/or demonstrated relevant professional experience and training.
  • Demonstrated high-level skills and experience in Adobe Creative Suite essential.
  • Understanding of, and experience in, corporate branding, layout, colour theory and typography in both print and digital media.
  • Experience in designing engaging digital assets across websites, social media and other digital channels.
  • Knowledge of print production, including the various print formats, methods, materials, finishes and specifications required to brief in print jobs.
  • Ability to receive highly complex briefs/information and translate into simple, effective visual communication.
