First Nations Programs Manager - Sydney / Melbourne / Remote / Work from Home

  • Drive organisation and industry change by supporting the guiding principles and objectives outlined in Support Act’s First Nations Strategic Plan
  • Create and implement culturally intelligent policies and processes that ensure that First Nations music workers feel comfortable in engaging with Support Act services
  • Develop and implement programs to support the mental health and wellbeing of First Nations music workers experiencing psychological distress
  • This is an identified position for an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person. Aboriginality is a genuine occupational qualification and is authorised under Section 14(d) of the Anti-discrimination Act 1977.
  • This role is offered full-time at five days per week and will commence on 20 January 2025.

THE ORGANISATION

Support Act delivers crisis relief services to musicians, managers, crew and music workers across all genres who are unable to work due to ill health, injury, mental health or some other crisis. Other Support Act services include the Support Act Wellbeing Helpline, funeral support and a range of life-saving mental health prevention, education and training programs for music workers experiencing psychological distress. Our First Nations team ensure that we are providing culturally informed services for First Nations music workers.

THE ROLE

The First Nations Programs Manager role supports the organisation to increase the number of First Nations artists, artist managers, crew and music workers across all genres who are accessing our crisis relief and mental health & wellbeing services. The role is also responsible for developing programs that help provide a First Nations perspective and that encourage greater equity and inclusion for First Nations music workers internally and externally.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Manage the delivery of Support Act’s First Nations programs and services including Yarning Strong, First Nations Mental Health First Aid, and Voices Amplified: Diversity, Equity and Inclusion training.
  • Provide culturally intelligent support to the First Nations Social Worker, who reports to the Crisis Relief Team Leader
  • Promote mental health and wellbeing support for First Nations music workers through promotion of the Support Act Wellbeing Helpline / dedicated First Nations Support Line
  • Work across the organisation to ensure a First Nations perspective on all programs and activities
  • Support the guiding principles and objectives contained in the First Nations Strategic Plan
  • Identify, develop and implement new programs and funding pathways as needed
  • Attend and represent Support Act at conferences, meetings and festivals, providing backstage wellbeing support as required
  • Build and maintain strong and mutually beneficial relationships with the First Nations music community
  • Be a voice to the music community on issues that impact the mental health and wellbeing of First Nations Music Workers

SKILLS REQUIRED:

Essential:

  • This is an identified position for an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person. Aboriginality is a genuine occupational qualification and is authorised under Section 14(d) of the Anti-discrimination Act 1977
  • Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander lived experience, cultural knowledge, community connection or capability is essential to succeeding in this role and the services being provided
  • An understanding of, or experience working in, the Australian music or creative industries
  • A qualification in mental health, mental health promotion, case management will be highly regarded OR a minimum of 5 years lived experience working in a related field will be considered
  • Program planning and evaluation skills
  • Ability to manage budgets and provide timely project reporting

Desirable:

  • Demonstrated skills in community / industry engagement and relationship building, and conflict and resolution skills
  • Experience working for a not for profit or community-based organisation
  • Experience in obtaining and acquitting grant funding, including grant writing
  • Experience in creating a positive workplace culture and managing and optimising team performance in a remote team environment
