The Museum

Murray Art Museum Albury (MAMA) is a vibrant contemporary art museum on Wiradjuri Country, in regional NSW. The Museum has 6 exhibition spaces and delivers over 25 original exhibitions per year from local, National, and International artists. The Museum has a permanent Visual Art Collection of over 3000 works, as well as a significant commissioning program. MAMA is deeply invested in community engagement and hosts a range of public programs, events, clubs, classes, workshops, kids programs, and partnership activities. The Museum has 16 permanent staff, supported by a variety of technicians, educators, casual team members, and volunteers.

The Position

The Curator First Nations will work as a member of the Curatorial team and will be responsible for the delivery of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander programming. This position will also assist in the care, presentation, and development of the MAMA Visual Art Collection.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work with the Curatorial team in the development and delivery of exhibitions, with a focus on artistic programs involving Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists.
  • Provide technical assistance in the areas of exhibition installation and de-installation of exhibitions.
  • Contribute to the writing and editing of exhibition texts.
  • Undertake and support research on artistic programs involving Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists
  • Assist in the administration of an outward touring exhibition program.
  • Assist with the care and development of the Visual Art Collection with a focus on research, consideration and care of artworks by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists.
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of key stakeholder relationships, including local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community Groups and Agencies.
  • Work closely with team members to ensure the efficient operation of MAMA.

Employment Conditions

  • The salary for this position is $72,910 to $80,201 pa + 11.5% superannuation, pro-rata. 
  • This role is part time with a minimum 21 hours per week, with the option to work up to 28 hours per week on a regular basis. (Based on a 35 hour full time work week)
  • Additional hours up to 35 hours per week may be worked by agreement, and paid at the ordinary rate of pay. 
  • A regular work pattern will be established at commencement.
