East Gippsland Shire Council is looking for a passionate leader to embed culture and creativity into the fabric of our region! We’re after someone special who can bring an inspiring, creative vision to life while ensuring our creative and cultural programs are sustainable for the long term.

The ideal candidate will be a confident communicator with strong business acumen,capable of presenting strategies to councillors and building lasting relationships with stakeholders across government, industry and the local creative community. A natural leader, you’ll support and guide a multitalented team of engagement, marketing, operations and technical professionals – and be ready to advocate for new opportunities that elevate arts and culture across East Gippsland

Key responsibilities include:

  • Delivery of Council’s Culture and Creativity Strategy
  • Management of grant funding from various sources
  • Oversee operations, budget and programming for the Forge Theatre
  • Lead and develop your team
  • Build relationships with major stakeholders in state and federal government as well as industry groups and local practitioners
  • Advocate for new opportunities and resources

This is a permanent, full-time opportunity based in Bairnsdale with hybrid working arrangements available. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are encouraged to apply.

What we’re looking for:

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications and/or significant experience in arts administration, cultural development, or related fields.
  • Proven experience in arts programming, project delivery, and managing performing arts facilities.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to develop teams and facilitate professional development.
  • Demonstrated ability to build partnerships across sectors and navigate government policies and funding in the arts and culture space.
  • Strong business acumen, to confidently manage budgets, develop strategies, write reports and present to Councillors
  • An understanding of local government operations

If successful, you will need to hold a current Working with Children Check, undertake a police check and psychometric testing. You must also be legally entitled to work in Australia.
