About the team

The Cultural Heritage Advisor is an important position that sits within the City’s Heritage and First Nations team – high performing professionals that deliver quality protection, conservation, compliance, and First Nations services and expertise. The team is situated in the Sustainability, Heritage and Compliance Branch of the Department Environment, Heritage and Resilience.

 

About your new role

As Cultural Heritage Advisor, you will use your archaeological expertise, skills and experience to conduct heritage risk assessments, contribute to improved risk management processes, manage heritage work programs and surveys and engage with consultants, including Aboriginal parties and their technical advisors. This role is predominantly office/work from home based with an occasional fieldwork component.

Some of your responsibilities will include: •    Manage the end-to-end cultural heritage risk management process for the City’s capital and operational work program. •    Fulfil the specialist role of Cultural Heritage Advisor including technical desktop and field cultural heritage risk analysis and management services for moderately complex projects in the planning, design, and construction phases. •    Develop reasonably practicable cultural heritage management measures in consultation with internal and external stakeholders, consultants, Aboriginal parties and technical advisors. •    Advise stakeholders on legislative requirements for cultural heritage management. •    Contribute to continuous improvement of cultural heritage management systems and performance within the City. •    Design and deliver cultural heritage management training packages for internal stakeholders.

We’re looking for people who have:

•    Tertiary degree in a relevant cultural heritage practice (archaeology, cultural heritage management, anthropology). •    At least 1 years of professional industry cultural heritage management experience associated with the delivery of infrastructure projects •    Technical archaeological expertise, skills and experience in Aboriginal cultural heritage management, survey and analysis for heritage risk •    Experience providing detailed technical and statutory advice on Aboriginal cultural heritage matters •    Strong understanding of Australian heritage legislation and cultural heritage compliance best practice principles •    Demonstrated experience preparing quality technical reporting, and management and mitigation strategies •    Ability to apply expertise to analyse technical information, exercise professional judgement, make effective decisions and problem solve •    An exceptional communicator with strong written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to communicate technical information effectively and negotiate reasonably practicable outcomes •    You can work independently and within a team environment, and take initiative to foster productive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders. •    Hold a Class C current unrestricted drivers licence
