Agency is an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander not-for-profit organisation that is a catalyst for connection, engagement, and impact for First Nations artists, communities and culture. Agency has its main office located in Naarm (Melbourne), Collingwood, Victoria.

Established in 2019, Agency delivers a range of activities and innovative projects which increase opportunities for First Nations peoples and support our vision to celebrate and promote Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander art, culture and people on a local, national and international scale.

Agency currently has an annual turnover of over $2m and delivers a program of project activity in all parts of Australia – remote, rural and urban settings. Agency primarily works in the visual arts sector with individual artists and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander arts centers. Agency also has presented programs internationally and constantly seeks new opportunities and partners locally and globally.

Agency’s programs provide a platform for artists and stakeholders to participate in a broad range of activities including visual arts exhibitions, talks, performances and cultural events, introducing them to new ideas, practices and ways of thinking. Our varied projects and programs support creative and artistic practice, cultural diplomacy and creative opportunity for individuals and communities.

Reporting to the Board and leading a small team, the CEO is responsible for leading the strategic direction of the organisation, leading and inspiring a small team to deliver an annual program of innovative and sustainable projects and programs, and, advocating widely for support for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists, communities and culture.

We are looking for an experienced CEO whose vision, passion and energy can leverage what has been achieved in this short time.

This role will influence a workplace culture that supports and promotes the interests of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and actively engages through culturally informed relationships and collaboration, to contribute to better outcomes for First Nations people.

ABOUT THE ROLE:

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Agency Projects is responsible for leadership and strategy; developing an annual program of project activity, operational oversight; fundraising and development; external relations & advocacy; and governance & board relations, collaborating with the Board of Directors and leadership team to set the strategic direction, ensuring their programs remain impactful and sustainable.

The CEO will provide strong First Nations leadership that will guide the organisation into its next chapter of growth and impact, scaling existing programs, expanding advocacy, developing key funding relationships and sustainable partnerships to support core activities and embed Agency’s mission to celebrate and promote First Nations art, culture, and people.

This role will suit a respected voice and recognised Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander leader with the following skills and experience –

  • Significant evidence of leadership and people management skills and operational and financial management skills suitable for a growing First Nations organisation
  • Strong knowledge and experience at senior leadership level in an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander services sector
  • Strong knowledge and/or expertise in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander visual arts sector
  • Experience in leading and contributing to strategic thinking, policy development and ability to work proactively and innovatively
  • Superior interpersonal and stakeholder engagement skills with experience in building relationships with a range of types of stakeholders internally and externally.
  • Demonstrated experience in effective oversight of all aspects of business processes (e.g. budget, corporate services, Governance proactices)
  • Tertiary qualification/s and/or relevant experience in the field.
