Artistic Operations Manager (part-time)

CIMF is looking for an Artistic Operations Manager to help us deliver a world-class music festival in our nation's capital!

Position Title: Artistic Operations Manager

Employment Type: Part-time, FTE 0.4. Flexible hours/days, upon negotiation.

Employment Location: Canberra. Opportunities to work remotely, but required to work in the CIMF office at least twice per week.

Reports To: Executive Director

Remuneration: $75,000 pro rata + super

About CIMF

Founded in 1994 as a chamber music festival, the Canberra International Music Festival (CIMF, the Festival) has evolved into one of Australia’s most significant art music Festivals spanning Western and global classical traditions, Indigenous music, and contemporary art music.

Canberra International Music Festival is an annual five-day Festival running in early May across several Canberra sites and spaces. Known for its adventurous and high-quality events, CIMF recently appointed visionary artistic director Eugene Ughetti who will deliver his first artistic program in 2025.

Position Overview

The Artistic Operations Manager will play a key role in the planning and coordination all artistic aspects of the Canberra International Music Festival.

This position requires strong organisational and communications skills and close collaboration with the Artistic Director, Production Manager and Executive Director.

The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills, an ability to multitask, a keen eye for detail and enjoy working with musicians and behind the scenes.

Please note that due to the annual cycle of the Festival and the nature of the role, the workload fluctuates throughout the year, with additional days required in the immediate run up to the Festival. This time will be compensated by time off in lieu.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work with the Artistic Director and Production Manager to ensure seamless execution of artistic programs.
  • Schedule all concerts, rehearsals, sound checks, and venue bookings.
  • Generate and distribute all artist contracts.
  • Collaborate with the Artistic Director to develop and manage the artistic budget.
  • Coordinate interstate/international travel, ground transportation, accommodation, insurance, and per diems for all artists.
  • Source and distribute music to artists in a timely manner.
  • Assist with artistic marketing and communications, including coordinate all marketing and publicity material from artists, uploading artistic content onto website and contribute to newsletters.
  • Act as the key liaison for all artists and ensembles throughout the Festival, with support from the Assistant Artist Coordinator.

Key Skills & Competencies:

  • High proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Strong organisational and time-management skills, such as coordinating multiple rehearsals across different venues while ensuring timely artist arrivals and sound checks.
  • Ability to work flexibly, independently and collaboratively in a dynamic festival environment.
  • Knowledge of concert music protocols including basic production management and experience with technical riders and score reading.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience using Festival Pro (or other event/artist management software), Canva, and Salesforce.
  • Prior experience working in a festival or performing arts environment.
  • Specialised knowledge in the Canberra and Australian music scene, including with artists, venues and presenters.
  • Understanding of artist management and contract administration.
