Hothouse Theatre
Artistic Leadership – Expressions of Interest

HotHouse Theatre is seeking bold, visionary artistic leaders to shape the future of one of Australia’s most community-connected theatre companies.
Make theatre differently. Shape a bold new future.
We invite Expressions of Interest (EOIs) from individuals, co-leaders or collectives eager to explore new ways of making, leading, and engaging through theatre. This is not a traditional appointment – we’re open to creative leadership models that prioritise connection, equity, and imagination. Residency in Albury-Wodonga is welcomed, but not essential.
Who we’re looking for
We want to hear from creative leaders who:
- Have a bold artistic vision grounded in storytelling, participation, and engagement
- Are excited to rethink conventional leadership and theatre-making
- Champion inclusion, access, and diverse voices
- Understand – or are curious about – the unique power of regional communities
- Are ready to shape a model that prioritises depth of impact over output
Why join HotHouse?
For nearly 30 years, HotHouse has been the beating heart of Albury-Wodonga’s creative life. Since our establishment in 1997, we have been a trailblazer in developing and presenting new Australian work, amplifying regional voices, and fostering a thriving artistic community. As we look ahead to our 2030 Vision, we’re ready to reimagine leadership, deepen our artist and audience relationships, and push creative boundaries.
We offer access to two nationally significant creative spaces:
- The Butter Factory Theatre & Studio – a recently upgraded 162-seat performance venue
- The GreenHouse – a rehearsal studio and artist retreat space located in the Wonga Wetlands
We are eager to see new approaches to these assets and the broader artistic vision for HotHouse. How could they foster fresh collaborations and models that serve artists and community? This is an opportunity to lead, imagine, and collaborate in a company ready to evolve – with you.
How to Apply
Submit a short Expression of Interest outlining:
- Your artistic vision and approach to leadership
- How you would engage with HotHouse’s assets and community
- A few key achievements or experiences that reflect your values and practice
- Any bold ideas or areas of interest you’d love to explore
