Tangentyere Council Aboriginal Corporation (TCAC) is a community controlled Public Benevolent Institution delivering human services and social enterprise activities for the benefit of Aboriginal people from the Alice Springs Town Camps, urban Alice Springs, and Central Australia.

The Opportunity

Tangentyere Design, a subsidiary of TCAC, is an Aboriginal-owned architectural practice based in Alice Springs. For three decades Tangentyere Design has been providing architectural and project management services to Aboriginal Australians throughout the Northern Territory, as well as to Commonwealth and Territory Government Agencies, and to a range of commercial and private clients.

The Draftsperson will work on architectural projects as directed by the Senior Architects including design and presentation drawings, contract documentation and some miscellaneous administration duties.

Responsibilities

  • Work on architectural projects within the Tangentyere Design office including design, contract documentation and some administration. Collaborate with Architects, Secondary Consultants, Contractors, Tradespeople, and suppliers, as necessary.
  • Utilise AutoCAD and Revit to prepare and update drawings, ensuring accuracy and comprehensive results. Stay updated on required software and technical skills to ensure the practical application of new knowledge. Assist in training internal staff as needed to promote team growth and proficiency.
  • Ensure all drawings adhere to building codes and regulations.
  • Attend sites, as required, to obtain information, take measurements or to meet other involved parties.
  • Take responsibility for time management of assigned jobs. Keep an accurate daily record of the time spent on each assigned job.
  • Attend office meetings and provide reports to the Manager on a regular basis regarding the progress of individual projects under your responsibility.
  • Assist in the maintenance of office systems including updating of the trade library and filing systems.
  • Adhere to Work Health & Safety policies.
  • Assist with achieving quality management objectives across the organisation.
  • Assist with achieving safeguarding objectives across the organisation.
  • Assist with achieving compliance objectives across the organisation.
  • Other reasonable duties as required.

Qualifications and Selection Criteria

Required

  • Relevant Applicants should hold Diploma in architectural drafting.
  • Have experience and sound knowledge in the areas of construction and contract documentation.
  • Have sound technical knowledge of architectural project delivery.
  • Demonstrable skills in the areas of design, presentation, and technical skills.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD and Revit.
  • Computer literacy using Microsoft Office products and presentation software.
  • Current NT Drivers Licence, NT Working with Children (Ochre) Card, satisfactory Police Check, and proof of full (3) vaccination against COVID-19.

Desired

  • An understanding, awareness and sensitivity to Aboriginal culture and law and the ability and experience to communicate effectively with Aboriginal people.
  • Experience working on architectural projects with community groups and / or community-based organisations.
  • Have experience working with other architects, designers, and consultants.
