Academy Casual Trainer

Circa Academy is seeking trainers to join our team.

Circa Academy is seeking multiple Casual Trainers to join our team, specializing in either Youth Circus instruction or Aerial coaching—you do not need to be experienced in both.

As a Casual Trainer at Circa, you will contribute to delivering safe and engaging circus classes that align with the Academy’s curriculum. The ideal candidates will have strong technical skills in their area, the ability to demonstrate as needed, and a commitment to fostering a positive and creative learning environment. This role requires physical fitness, adaptability, and a strong focus on student growth and safety. Trainers will be assigned to specific class levels based on their expertise, with flexibility to assist across different programs when required.

Key Responsibilities:

Demonstration and Instruction

  • Actively demonstrate aerial or acrobatic skills as required by the class curriculum to aid student understanding.
  • Adapt demonstrations to suit the needs of the class and curriculum, ensuring clarity and relevance in teaching methods.
  • Provide clear, step-by-step instructions that support skill development, strength, flexibility, and creativity.

Safety Spotting

  • Spot students during skills and exercises to ensure safety and minimize injury risks.
  • Educate students on safety protocols and correct techniques in all aerial and acrobatic activities.

Lesson Planning and Alignment

  • Contribute to lesson planning that aligns with the Academy syllabus, adapting as necessary to meet student needs.
  • Collaborate with other trainers to ensure continuity and consistency in class progression and skill-building.

Student Assessment and Goal Setting

  • Support student assessment by identifying individual strengths and areas for improvement.
  • Assist in setting achievable goals tailored to each student’s abilities and aspirations.

Studio Space and Equipment Management

  • Contribute to the maintenance of a safe and organized studio space, ensuring all equipment is in good working order.
  • Assist in restoring the studio to its original condition after classes and ensure compliance with safety regulations.

Communication and Support

  • Liaise with students on their progress, program suitability, cross-training opportunities, and injury prevention.
  • Communicate effectively with the Head of Circus, Lead Aerials Coach, and other staff to support a positive learning environment.

Essential Qualifications & Skills:

  • Technical Expertise: Strong coaching abilities across beginner to advanced levels, depending on class assignment.
  • Physical Fitness: Ability to maintain the physical demands of a coaching role.
  • Safety Knowledge: Proficient in safety practices and risk management for all activities.

  • A strong teacher who is warm, approachable, and committed to empowering students at every level or age.
  • Adaptable, reliable, and able to work collaboratively with other trainers and students.
  • Organized, with attention to detail for maintaining a safe and supportive training environment.

 Key Details

  • The role is based in Brisbane, Australia
  • Start date: Term 2 which commences April 21. Flexible start dates are possible.
  • Employment Basis: Casual
  • Work on weekends and outside hours will be necessary
