Mornington Peninsula Shire has commissioned four local artists to create exciting, interactive pop-up art installations in individual parking bays as part of the international Park(ing) Day event on Friday 20 September.

Park(ing)Day is a global, public, participatory project where people across the world temporarily repurpose curbside parking spaces and convert them into public parks and social spaces to advocate for safer, greener and more equitable streets for people.

Congratulations to the selected artists; Liz Walker, Eleesa Howard, Mia Rappel and Hyphae Cocreates.

Visit the temporary public art activations in the townships of Blairgowrie, Flinders, Hastings, and Mornington.

WHAT IS THE IMPORTANCE OF PARK(ING)DAY?

Park(ing)Day is a global, public, participatory project where people across the world temporarily repurpose curbside parking spaces and convert them into public parks and social spaces to advocate for safer, greener and more equitable streets for people.

Park(ing)Day is an invitation to temporarily re-imagine our streets as the places that prioritize people walking, biking, socialising, expressing creativity, and playing. Park(ing) Day started in 2005 in San Francisco as a guerrilla art installation by the art and design collective Rebar Group. Today it’s a global, public, participatory art and design activism event with thousands of participants every year and growing. Park(ing) Day is part of the broader movement of tactical urbanism that seeks to use short-term and temporary actions to catalyse long-term changes.
